Thaifights the finals

The 6th of December saw the culmination of the Thaifights tournament, with the finals

 

held at the Chalermprakiat 80 Pansar stadium in Khorat province. The grand prize at stake 2 million baht and a brand new Isuzu pick up truck.

Petmankong Petfergus(black) vs Fabio Pinca (white)

In the opening round it is Petmankong that looks the more aggressive of the two, as he opens up with some strong knees and solid punch and lowkick attacks. Fabio fires in a few solid punches and lowkicks, but hasn’t found his range yet and looks like he is pacing himself a little. Fabio starts to push forward more in round 2 and looks to open up with solid punches and lowkicks. Petmankong soaks up the attacks well though and sticks to the ropes, looking to pick off Fabio with solid knees as he comes into attack. Fabio calls Pertmankong to come into the centre of the ring and fight, but Petmankong sticks to his game plan and ends the round comfortably ahead. Fabio needs a huge round in the 3rd to have any chance of going through to the final and starts positively, marching forward and firing in solid punches. Petmankong looks to just try and control the ring to the bell and doesn’t engage much, but a short way in a hard left hook from Fabio shale’s up Petmankong and he looks hurt. Fabio pushes forward more opening up with hard punches and elbows and Petmankong tries to fire back with his own punches and elbows, but this proves to be his downfall as Fabio lands with a stunning barrage of shots that has Petmankong almost out on his feet. Petmankong slides down to the canvas, but doesn’t get a count. Fabio marches in again and lands with a huge barrage of shots and Petmankong drops to the canvas again where he is given an 8 count. Petmankong somehow manages to get to his feet and the referee starts the action again, but before Fabio can throw another punch the bell goes to save Petmankong. Fabio gets the decision though, ending the dreams of the huge Thai crowd and capping a remarkable last round comeback.

Soishiro Miyakoshi (black) vs Yousseff Boughanamen (white)

Yousseff opens up with some solid kicks in round 1. Soishiro comes in with some hard punches and lowkicks, but is a litrtle slow and Yousseff just soaks them up, at one point catching a kick of Soishiro, throwing him into the ropes and landing with a big counter highkick. Soishiro comes forward a little quicker in round 2 and works in some solid lowkicks and looks to punch. Yousseff controls the ring well though and soaks up the attacks and comes back with some solid elbows and kicks and ties up Soishiro in the clinch and powers in some hard knees. Soishiro keeps on coming forward in the last round and gets through with some solid lowkicks and snaps Yousseff’s head back a few times with punches. Yousseff looks to just control the ring now and lands with a few knees and kicks to consolidate his lead and takes the decision at the bell to move into the final.

The final: Fabio Pinca vs Yousseff Boughadamen

Fabio pushes forward right from the off, from behind a sharp pushkick at first and opens up with solid punches to the body and some hard lowkicks. Yousseff looks subdued and doesn’t open up with much apart from some occasional knees. Fabio starts round 2 by opening up with some solid bodykicks and then starts to fire in some hard punches and more hard lowkicks. Yousseff looks determined at first and tries to fire back with hard knees, but Fabio lands with a heavy left hook and lowkick that drops Yousseff to the canvas for an 8 count. Fabio come forward looking to finish the fight, but Yousseff manages to soak up the attacks, but Fabio is totally dominant. Yousseff comes out punching in the final round and starts to land with a few solid shots. Fabio plants his feet and fires back and there is a brutal exchange of punches and elbows between the two. Yousseff keeps coming at first, but Fabio drops his hands and lets Yousseff land a couple of shots, but it was just Fabio drawing him in and Fabio lashes out with a huge punch that has Yousseff hurt bad on the ropes. Fabio opens up again, but Yousseff soaks up now and spends the rest of the round on the back foot. Fabio comes forward throughout and lands a few more hard punches and kicks and takes the decision at the end, becoming the first ever Thaifights champion.
