Lumpini champions Kriekkrai 4-6-2010

The 4th of June saw a huge fight card at Lumpini stadium, with several titles on the line and many big name fighters.

 

It was the first big show after the stadium reopened following the end of the political disturbances of recent weeks and just what was needed to get the crowds back in through the doors.

 

Petpanomrung Sor Thamrangsi vs Mondam Sor Wirapon

Both fighters just go through the motions in the opening round. In round 2 Mondam starts to push forward and looks to take the fight into the clinch. Petpanomrung moves off to the sides and fires in some sharp left kicks. Mondam comes out even more fired up in the 3rd and marches forward opening up with hard knees and punches. Petpanomrung looks sharp in the clinch though and spins Mondam off balance several times and lands with some hard knees of his own. At one point Petpanomrung lands a perfectly timed pushkick that takes Mondam off his feet. Mondam pushes forward again at the start of the 4th and pressures Petpanomrung with more solid knee attacks. Petpanomrung struggles at first under the relentless pressure but gets through with more slick left kicks in the second half of the round. The final round is very close, with Petpanomrung starting fast with 3 sharp kicks and a hard stabbing knee. Mondam comes forward again and both trade knees in the clinch. Mondam backs off towards the end looking ahead, but Petpanomrung lands with 3 more fast kicks. Mondam lands a couple more knees just before the bell. The judges call a majority decision with two scoring the bout for Mondam and the other calling it a draw.

Norasing Lukbanyai vs Ponsawan Lukprabart

This fight sees Norasing defend his Thailand Super-flyweight title. In the 1st round Norasing wastes no time and comes out firing in hard punches and lowkicks and some dangerous looking elbows. Ponsawan doesn’t look phased though and fires in some sharp push kicks that unsettle Norasing and keep him off balance. Norasing pushes forward again in round 2 and a short way into the round buckles the legs of Ponsawan with a solid overhand punch. Norasing opes up with a fierce barrage of punches and lowkicks and Ponsawan struggles to regain his senses. Ponsawan survives the onslaught and starts to fire back with hard elbows and a fast high kick that draws a smile from Norasing. Norasing opens up with more hard punches, but Ponsawan grits his teeth and comes back with more sharp elbows, causing a swelling under the right eye of Norasing. Ponsawan comes forward in round 3, opening up with sharp pushkicks and solid knees. Norasing looks slow to open up now and Ponsawan soaks up all his punch attacks. Ponsawan lands with an eye catching jumping round kick, but luckily for Norasing there is not much power behind it. Ponsawan carries on where he left off at the start of round 4, unsettling Norasing with sharp pushkicks and firing in hard knees. Norasing’s, attacks have slowed up even more now and he only lands with one hard punch, but fails to capitalize on it. At the end of the round the crowd start to jeer Norasing for not opening up with anything. In the final round Ponsawan controls the ring and fires in a few solid knees to increase his lead, before taking the decision at the end. Norasing leaves the ring to a chorus off boos and calls to hang up his gloves.

Kangwanlek Petchyindee vs Chartchainoi Sor Prasopchoke

 

This fight saw Kangwanlek put his Thailand Bantamweight title up for grabs. Both just ease into the action in the opening round. In round 2 Chartchainoi starts to push forward and open up with hard long knees. Kangwanlek looks to move off of his attacks and fire in sharp left kicks, but still looks like he is saving himoself for later rounds. Round 3 sees Chartchainoi pushing forward again and taking the fight into the clinch and working more solid knees in. Kangwanlek contains his attacks at first, but towards the end of the round starts to open up with some well-timed, hard left bodykicks. Just after the start of the 4th round, there is a short break as Kangwanlek’s protective cup works loose. The action after is thrilling as Chartchainoi pushes forward again opening up with more heavy knees. Kangwanlek stands his ground now though and fires back with some lightening fast left kicks and some solid long knees. Both fighters fire in dangerous looking elbows throughout. The final round is another thriller, with Kangwanlek opening up with some hard left kicks at the start of the round. Chartchainoi comes back with more relentless knee attacks and towards the end of the round Kangwanlek looks like he is starting to fade a little. Kangwanlek lands a big kick just before the bell, but Chartchainoi’s relentless attacks see him awarded the judges decision

Sam-A Tor Ratonakiat vs Rungpet Wor Sangprapai

This fight saw Sam-A defend his Lumpini Super-bantamweight title. Both fight the opening round in the traditional Thai slow style. In round 2 Rungpet starts to push forward more and tries to take the fight into the clinch. Sam-A looks determined to lock Rungpet’s arms and stop him from controlling the clinch and fires in some fast long knees and punches. Rungpet ups the pace in the 3rd and at first doesn’t give Sam-A any time to breathe. Sam-A starts to open up with elbows though and soon opens up a nasty cut on Rungpet’s head. Blood starts to pour out and the referee takes Rungpet to see the ringside doctor, who allows the fight to continue. Rungpet keeps pushing forward, but walks onto more vicious elbows from Sam-A. Rungpet comes out looking to clinch again at the start of the 4th, but Sam-A’s elbows stop him in his tracks again. The blood is flowing out of his cut now also, making it difficult for both fighters. The referee takes Rungpet to see the doctor two more times, but both times he allows the action to continue. In the final round with Sam-A a long way in front, both corners tell their fighters to just go through the motions, with there being no point in Rungpet getting hurt anymore. They both just move around the ring throwing occasional, very light shots up to the bell, where Sam-A takes the decision

Saenchai Sor Kingstar vs Petmankong Petfergus

There is not too much action in the opening round. Saenchai opens up with some fast, flashy kicks and solid straight punches to the body. Petmankong looks huge as he fires back with some hard bodykicks and long knees. Petmankong pushes forward at the start of the 2nd, opening up with hard bodykicks and more long knees. Saenchai opens up with some blisteringly fast punch attacks, switching from body to head and then following up with stinging lowkicks. Petmankong just shakes them off though and comes back with more kicks and knees. Saenchai comes out looking to punch again in round 3. Petchmankong just shakes them off though and fires back with hard long knees and at one point takes Saenchai’s legs from under him with a sharp lowkick. Saenchai has a good round in the 4th as Petmankong slows up his attacks a little. Saenchai gets forward and lands with some sharp roundkicks and comes in low in the clinch, locking his arms around the waist of Petmankong and driving in knees to his sides. The final round is close at the start. Petmankong comes out and lands with some more strong knees to pull ahead. Saenchai needs to chase the fight now and pushes forward looking to punch and kick. Petmankong keeps him off though and contains his attacks and takes the points decision.

Sagetdao Petpayathai vs Petchboonchu FA Group

The main event is a high stakes affair, with Sagetdao defending his Lumpini Lightweight title and a cool 1 million baht side bet between the two camps on the line. Both take it easy in round 1. In round 2 both start to open up with some solid kicks and knees. The fight moves into the clinch in round 3, with both frantically trying to get their arms into a dominant, controlling position and both firing in solid knees. Towards the end of the round Petboonchu starts to look like he is coming on top with some relentless pressure and heavy knees. Round 4 sees more relentless knee action and Sagetdao contains Petboonchu’s attacks a little better now and fires in some hard stabbing knees. There is a close, electric finish to the fight in the final round. Sagetdao pushes forward and gets off with some big knees, but just as it looks like he may be pulling ahead, Petboonchu spins him off balance to the canvas. Sagetdao comes back again and it finishes very close, but Petboonchu takes the fight by a split decision
